Groudon

Released in early 2015 as part of the XY—Primal Clash expansion, this Groudon card represents the era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game that focused heavily on the Primal Reversion mechanic introduced in the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire video games. The set was designed to showcase the legendary Pokémon of the Hoenn region, emphasizing their ancient, restored power through striking, high-contrast character art. This particular card was intended to provide players with a grounded, non-EX variant that still maintained a formidable presence on the battlefield, reflecting the shift toward cards with heavy-hitting attack costs and high HP.

The illustration work for this set continued the tradition of dynamic, cinematic action shots that define modern Pokémon card design. Collectors often appreciate this card for its clean aesthetic and its role in completing the set's portrayal of the dual Primal legends. While it was not a chase ultra-rare, it remains a nostalgic piece for those who engaged with the TCG during the transition into the deeper mechanical complexities of the XY series, serving as a functional representation of Groudon's geological mastery.
