Lillipup card 103/149 was released in 2017 as part of the Sun & Moon base expansion, which served as the inaugural set for the seventh generation of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Introduced during the transition to the Alola region, the set was designed to reflect the tropical aesthetic and updated gameplay mechanics of the concurrent Nintendo 3DS video games. The illustration by match was intended to capture the domestic, loyal nature of the Puppy Pokémon, portraying it in a static, approachable pose consistent with its role as a common-tier encounter in the game series.
