Marshtomp

The Marshtomp card, numbered 11/40, was released in 2004 as part of the Nintendo Black Star Promos series. These cards were distributed primarily through the Pokémon Organized Play program and specific promotional events, serving to bridge the transition between the Expedition series and the burgeoning EX-era mechanics. It was designed to highlight the evolution of Mudkip, a fan-favorite starter Pokémon introduced in the third generation of games, specifically to capitalize on the popularity of the Hoenn region setting.

The artwork follows the characteristic aesthetic of the early 2000s TCG era, emphasizing vibrant, clean linework and dynamic poses intended to capture the character's aquatic nature. While not a competitively defining card, it remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors of the Nintendo era. It was well-received upon release for its accessibility, providing players and collectors a reliable way to acquire a mid-evolution stage starter Pokémon that was otherwise difficult to obtain outside of base expansion packs.
