Where it came from
Mesprit 42/131 was released in 2018 as part of the Forbidden Light expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was designed to introduce the mysterious Ultra Necrozma and themes surrounding the distortion of light and energy within the Alola region. The card depicts the Lake Guardian Mesprit, a Legendary Pokémon known for bestowing the emotion of gratitude upon humanity, fitting within the set's focus on enigmatic psychic-type entities.
The artwork for this card was created by Mizue, a long-standing contributor to the franchise whose style emphasizes fluid, ethereal character positioning. In this specific iteration, Mesprit is illustrated in a tranquil, hovering pose consistent with its lore-based personality. As an uncommon card, it serves as a functional piece for collectors and players alike, emphasizing accessibility over the high-rarity chase cards that defined the Forbidden Light set's competitive landscape.
