Provenance

Where it came from

The Nidorina card from the Jungle expansion was released in 1999 as part of the second set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which followed the immense success of the Base Set. The Jungle set was designed to introduce cards themed around the game's forest and nature-dwelling creatures, expanding the tactical possibilities for players while capitalizing on the initial wave of global Pokémon mania.

The artwork for this card was created by Kagemaru Himeno, a prominent illustrator whose work defined much of the early TCG aesthetic. Himeno’s design captures Nidorina in a defensive, ready-to-fight stance, utilizing the classic cell-shaded watercolor style typical of late-90s Pokémon illustrations. Upon its release, the card was well-received by fans for its inclusion of a fan-favorite evolution stage and its consistency with the established, accessible art direction of the series.
