Provenance

Where it came from

Released in early 2000, Base Set 2 was a comprehensive compilation created by Wizards of the Coast to address the scarcity of popular cards from the original Base Set and the Jungle expansion. As interest in the Pokémon Trading Card Game reached its peak, this set served as a bridge for new players to acquire foundational cards that had become difficult to find, repackaging iconic illustrations for a second printing cycle.

The Pinsir card, numbered 29/130, features the original artwork by Ken Sugimori, the primary designer and illustrator for the Pokémon franchise. His work during this era emphasized clear, iconic representations of the creatures, often focusing on their physical traits and combat readiness. In Base Set 2, Pinsir retained its Rare status, continuing its role as a formidable Grass-type attacker known for its signature Guillotine move.
