Where it came from
PlusPower was first introduced to the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the original Base Set release in 1999, eventually appearing in the Base Set 2 expansion in 2000. As a Trainer card, it was designed to provide a strategic advantage by increasing the damage output of a player's Active Pokémon during their turn, reflecting the core mechanics of power-boosting items found throughout the broader series.
The card features the signature illustrative style of Keiji Kinebuchi, who was responsible for the distinctive computer-generated 3D artwork common in the early days of the game. His design sought to capture the aesthetic of high-tech laboratory equipment, grounding the card's function as a utility item within the imaginative setting of the Pokémon world. It remains a recognizable piece of early card history due to its simplicity and utility in competitive play during the game's formative years.
