Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2003 as part of the Aquapolis expansion, this Psyduck card represents the final set of the E-Card series released in North America by Wizards of the Coast. The set is notable for its innovative E-Reader functionality, which allowed players to scan the card with a Game Boy Advance peripheral to access special minigames or Pokédex data. This era marked a transition in the aesthetic of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, characterized by a unique border design and a specialized dot-code strip on the left side of the card intended for digital integration.

The artwork for this particular card was created by Midori Harada, a prolific illustrator whose work defined much of the E-Card series. Harada often employed a soft, painterly style that emphasized the personality of the Pokémon within their natural environments. As a common card, it was produced in large quantities to fill out the 147-card set, yet it has since gained a reputation among collectors for its distinct visual identity and the specific historical snapshot it provides of the TCG during its early 2000s technical experimentation phase.
