Quagsire

Released in September 2001, the Neo Revelation set marked the third expansion of the Neo Series for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was designed to introduce Generation II Pokémon from the Johto region to the international market, following the success of the Pokémon Gold and Silver video games. As a common card in this expansion, the Quagsire was intended to bolster the variety of Water-type options available to players during the late Wizard of the Coast era of the game.

The artwork for this card was created by Kouki Saitou, a prolific artist who has contributed a vast number of illustrations to the Pokémon TCG over several decades. Saitou’s approach to the Quagsire design focuses on the character's docile and unassuming nature, capturing it in a simple, relaxed pose that aligns with the Pokémon's lore as a creature that spends much of its time in the water or mud. While common cards from this era were primarily functional game pieces, the Neo Revelation set is now regarded with nostalgia for its distinct, painterly aesthetic that defined the turn of the millennium for the franchise.
