Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1999 as part of the Jungle expansion, this Rapidash card served as the second core set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game in North America. Following the success of the Base Set, the Jungle expansion was designed to introduce players to the creatures found in the wild forests of the Kanto region, expanding the strategic options for Fire-type deck archetypes with its signature Agility and Fire Blast attacks.

The artwork for this card was created by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer for the Pokémon franchise. Sugimori sought to capture the elegance and intensity of the Flame Horse Pokémon, utilizing his distinct watercolor-inspired aesthetic that defined the early visual identity of the series. The card was well-received by players for its balance of utility and classic design, remaining a staple of early-era collections.
