Provenance

Where it came from

Released in the 2012 expansion Dragons Exalted, this card represents the introduction of the Dragon-type to the Pokémon Trading Card Game. As the primary mascot of the set, this gold-bordered Secret Rare card was designed to celebrate the powerful Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza, marking a shift in the game's mechanics that integrated the new type alongside existing elemental strengths and weaknesses.

The artwork for this specific card features the 'Shiny' or rare color variation of Rayquaza, rendered with a distinctive black-and-gold aesthetic that solidified its status as a highly sought-after piece for collectors. The design was crafted to emphasize the creature's serpentine, celestial nature, and it remains a defining example of the Secret Rare chase cards that emerged during the Black & White era of the game.
