Where it came from
Secret Mission was released in the year 2000 as part of the Gym Heroes expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was notable for shifting focus toward the Gym Leaders of the Kanto region, featuring cards that reflected the signature styles and Pokémon of trainers like Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, and Erika. The set served as a bridge between the initial base sets and the more specialized mechanical focus seen in later expansions.
The artwork for this card was provided by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer for the Pokémon franchise. In keeping with the design language of the Gym Heroes set, the illustration leans into a tactical, trainer-focused aesthetic rather than the standard monster-centric art. The card itself functions as a Trainer card, designed to allow players to search their deck for a specific Pokémon, reflecting the strategic preparation of a gym challenge.
