Provenance

Where it came from

Released in November 2010 as part of the HS—Triumphant expansion, this Skorupi card served as the final main-series set for the HeartGold & SoulSilver era of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The set was designed to bridge the gap between the older mechanics and the upcoming Black & White era, focusing on the mechanics introduced during the Johto-region remakes. It represents a period where the card game leaned heavily into the aesthetics of the Nintendo DS titles, reflecting a shift toward cleaner, more modern graphic design in card borders and energy symbols.

The card features the scorpion-like Pokémon Skorupi, illustrated by artist Atsuko Nishida. Nishida, one of the most prolific contributors to the franchise and notably the original designer of Pikachu, utilized her signature style to capture the creature in a grounded, naturalistic pose. As a common card, it was distributed widely in booster packs and theme decks, intended as a staple for deck-building during the 2010 competitive season. It was received as a functional, accessible entry for players, though it remained a secondary card compared to the set's more powerful Prime and Legend cards.
