What it does
During your opponent's turn, if Skull Fossil would be Knocked Out by damage from an opponent's attack, flip a coin until you get tails. For each heads, put 1 damage counter on the Attacking Pokémon.
Play Skull Fossil as if it were a Colorless Basic Pokémon. (Skull Fossil counts as a Trainer card as well, but if Skull Fossil is Knocked Out, this counts as a Knocked Out Pokémon.) Skull Fossil can't be affected by any Special Conditions and can't retreat. At any time during your turn before your attack, you may discard Skull Fossil from play. (This doesn't count as a Knocked Out Pokémon.)

Where it came from
The Skull Fossil card was released in 2007 as part of the Mysterious Treasures expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was notable for reintroducing Fossil cards, which served as a specific mechanic to evolve certain prehistoric Pokémon during gameplay. The card design follows the era's standard Trainer-Item aesthetic, focusing on functional clarity to allow players to search their deck for a Cranidos card, representing the process of reconstructing a fossilized specimen.
The visual language of the card features a detailed illustration of the fossilized remains, rendered in the characteristic style of the time to evoke a sense of archaeological discovery. While the specific illustrator's work on this card is standard for the series, the design served a clear strategic purpose within the TCG's competitive environment. As a common card, it was widely distributed, ensuring that players had reliable access to the necessary components for building decks centered around the Sinnoh region's fossil Pokémon.
