Where it came from
The Skyla card from the Shining Fates expansion, numbered 72/72, represents the final card in the set’s main collection. Released in early 2021 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's celebration of the Shining Fates series, this card reimagines the popular Gym Leader from the Unova region. The set was designed to feature shiny Pokémon and visually striking full-art Trainer cards, aiming to appeal to both competitive players and collectors who value high-rarity, aesthetic-focused cards.
The artwork was illustrated by Sanosuke Sakuma, who is recognized for a distinct style that emphasizes clean lines and vibrant, expressive character design. In this specific iteration, Skyla is depicted in her pilot attire against a dynamic, colorful background. Upon release, it was well-received by the community for its high-quality foil treatment and the nostalgic appeal of the character, serving as a sought-after 'chase' card for those completing the Shining Fates master set.
