Provenance

Where it came from

Sneasel first appeared as part of the Neo Revelation expansion, released in Japan in late 2000 and reaching international markets in 2001. This set was notable for introducing the concept of Shiny Pokémon to the trading card game and for being the final set of the Neo era to feature the Johto region's Pokédex. As a Darkness-type card, Sneasel was part of the foundational expansion of the type, which had only been introduced to the TCG shortly before in the Neo Genesis set.

The card features artwork by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer for the Pokémon franchise. Sugimori’s illustrations from this era are recognized for their clean, minimalist style that emphasizes the character's personality and silhouette. This particular card gained significant attention within the competitive TCG community at the time due to its Beat Up attack, which allowed players to deal substantial damage based on the number of Darkness-type Pokémon on their bench, making it a formidable centerpiece in many decks during the Neo format.
