Where it came from
Struggle Gloves was released in August 2020 as part of the Sword & Shield—Darkness Ablaze expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was designed to spotlight the Legendary Pokémon Eternatus, introducing its Gigantamax form as a centerpiece for competitive play. As a Pokémon Tool card, the item serves a specific mechanical purpose in the game, allowing the attached Pokémon to increase its damage output while potentially inflicting a status condition on the user, reflecting the theme of struggle and high-risk mechanics prevalent in this era of the game's evolution.
The card features artwork by Toyste Beach, an illustrator known for contributing to the Pokémon TCG during the Sword & Shield era. The design captures a gritty, industrial aesthetic consistent with the Galar region's inspiration, emphasizing the item's role as a heavy-duty piece of equipment. Within the Darkness Ablaze set, this uncommon card was positioned to support players looking for strategic versatility in their decks, receiving typical recognition as a functional, mid-tier utility item within the broader meta-game of the time.
