Where it came from
Team Aqua's Seviper was released in 2015 as part of the Double Crisis expansion, a specialized mini-set within the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was produced as a collaborative promotion with the release of the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire video games, focusing specifically on the antagonistic Team Aqua and Team Magma organizations. The design aesthetic reflects this narrative, with the card frame featuring the distinct blue, water-themed livery associated with Team Aqua’s branding.
The card was illustrated by match, a veteran artist for the Pokémon TCG known for a clean, digital style that emphasizes the character's movement. In this depiction, Seviper is rendered in an aggressive, coiled pose that highlights its signature fangs, aligning with the darker, more industrial visual identity developed for the villainous teams in the expansion. Upon release, the set was noted by players for its cohesive thematic design, though as a common card, it served primarily as a functional piece for players building decks around the Team Aqua mechanics.
