Where it came from
Team Magma's Secret Base was released as part of the Double Crisis subset in 2015, a unique collaboration set that focused exclusively on the rival villainous organizations from the Hoenn region. This set was designed to tie into the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire video games, bringing the thematic conflict between Team Magma and Team Aqua to the trading card game. The card served as a stadium card with a specific mechanical focus on supporting the Team Magma Pokémon, reflecting the organization's quest to expand the earth's landmass.
The card’s design utilizes the distinct, rugged aesthetic associated with Team Magma, featuring the sharp lines and volcanic color palette of their base. By providing a boost to Team Magma-specific creatures while hindering opposing Pokémon that did not evolve from specific stages, the design effectively translated the gameplay identity of the villain team into a strategic tool for players. It was well-received by collectors interested in the lore of the Hoenn-based antagonists and remains a notable inclusion for those building theme-specific decks.
