Where it came from
Transparent Walls was released in October 2000 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Gym Challenge expansion. This set was designed to reflect the gym leaders of the Kanto region as they appeared in the Pokémon video games, specifically focusing on the leaders encountered in the later stages of the journey. As a Trainer card, it was crafted to provide players with a tactical advantage by preventing damage to the user's active Pokémon from attacks that are not based on type weaknesses.
The artwork for this card was created by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer and illustrator for the Pokémon franchise. Sugimori utilized a clean, functional aesthetic that emphasized the card's utility within the competitive landscape of the era. Upon its release, the Gym Challenge set was well-received for expanding the strategic depth of the game, and cards like Transparent Walls became staple inclusions for players looking to bolster their defensive capabilities against aggressive opponents.
