Weedle

Released in October 2005 as part of the EX Delta Species expansion, this Weedle card represents a pivotal era in the Pokémon Trading Card Game where scientists at the Holon Research Tower introduced 'Delta Species' Pokémon. The set’s central premise involved Pokémon that had undergone mutation due to exposure to unique electromagnetic waves, resulting in altered elemental types. This particular card reframes the typically Bug-type Weedle as a Grass-type, reflecting the thematic emphasis on the mysterious Holon region’s influence on local wildlife.

The artwork was illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, one of the most prolific and recognizable artists in the franchise’s history. Arita’s design for this card captures the creature in a minimalist, serene environment, adhering to the standard aesthetic of the EX series which favored clean character portraits against atmospheric, often abstract backgrounds. Upon release, the set was well-received by players for its tactical variety, as the typing changes allowed for new deck-building strategies that defied the traditional elemental weaknesses established in earlier expansions.
