Where it came from
A Gaita Do Rodeio, released in 1990 under the Nova Trilha label, stands as a notable example of the regional gaucho music that flourished in southern Brazil during the late 20th century. This record reflects the cultural dedication of Régis Marques, an accordionist committed to preserving the traditional sounds of the rural rodeo circuit, which serves as both a sport and a vital social gathering point in Rio Grande do Sul.
The production of the album emphasizes a clean, acoustic-forward sound typical of Nova Trilha releases from this era, aiming to capture the authentic energy of live dance hall music. While Régis Marques is respected within the niche of traditionalist folk musicians for his technical proficiency on the accordion, the record was primarily marketed to local audiences attending festivals and regional gatherings, maintaining a legacy as a heartfelt document of a specific regional subculture.
