Released in 1958 on the Good Old Gold label, Click Clack / Nee Nee Na Na Na Nu Nu served as the debut single for Dicky Doo & The Don'ts. The group was fronted by Dicky Doo, the stage name of Michael Davenport, a drummer who had previously performed with Buddy Holly. The tracks were characterized by a spirited, amateur-adjacent rock and roll energy that captured the burgeoning teen pop culture of the late fifties, defined by simple rhythmic structures and infectious vocal refrains.

The production sought to capitalize on the success of novelty-leaning rock and roll hits popular on radio stations during that era. The A-side, Click Clack, featured prominent percussive elements that highlighted Davenport's background as a drummer, while the B-side, Nee Nee Na Na Na Nu Nu, became a minor regional success. While the record did not achieve widespread critical acclaim, it remains a recognized example of the transition between rhythm and blues-influenced rock and the more polished sounds that would dominate the early 1960s.
