Released in 1969 by the Spanish label Hispavox, this recording captures the austere beauty of Gregorian and Mozarabic chant as performed by the monks of the Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos. The album serves as a scholarly musical companion to the liturgical history of the Iberian Peninsula, featuring selections from the Codex Calixtinus, a 12th-century manuscript serving as a guide for pilgrims on the Way of St. James, and the Mozarabic Antiphonary, which represents the ancient rite used by Christians living under Islamic rule in medieval Spain.
