This recording features the Klais organ of the St. Kilians-Dom in Würzburg, a major instrument reconstructed in the post-war period following the destruction of the cathedral in 1945. American concert organist George Markey, known for his technical precision and advocacy for contemporary German organ repertoire, was selected to perform the works of Max Reger for this release. Reger’s compositions were favored by Psallite for their dense harmonic language and demanding use of the full organ palette, which served to demonstrate the power and versatility of the Würzburg cathedral instrument.
