Dornik

Dornik’s self-titled debut album, released in 2015 through PMR Records, represents the culmination of his transition from a behind-the-scenes drummer for artists like Jessie Ware to a solo recording artist. Recorded primarily in his home studio in South London, the album draws heavily on the legacy of 1980s and 1990s R&B, channeling the smooth, synth-heavy aesthetic of artists like Michael Jackson and Babyface. The project was conceived as a deliberate departure from the electronic dance music sound that defined the label at the time, opting instead for a more organic, melodic approach to contemporary soul.

The album's design and sound were crafted with a focus on minimalism and precise, groove-oriented production. Critics at the time praised the record for its polished, nostalgic production and the vocal clarity that highlighted Dornik's technical proficiency. The release established his identity as an auteur capable of navigating the space between classic soul instrumentation and modern pop sensibilities, positioning him as a distinct voice within the British R&B scene during a period of significant global interest in the genre.
