Where it came from
Released by the German record label Europa in 1975, this recording is part of the extensive children's audio catalog that defined the listening habits of West German youth during the 1970s. The record features adaptations of classic fairy tales, specifically 'Dornröschen' by the Brothers Grimm and 'Der Schneemann' by Hans Christian Andersen, designed to provide accessible, educational storytelling for young listeners through the popular medium of the vinyl disc.
The Europa label, led by producers like Heikedine Körting, was renowned for its distinct house style, utilizing a consistent roster of voice actors and atmospheric, often synthesizer-driven, musical scores. This specific catalog number, E 2042, reflects the label's commitment to affordability and wide distribution, making literature and folklore culturally ubiquitous in German households. The cover art, consistent with the era's aesthetic, favored illustrative and colorful depictions intended to catch a child's eye on the crowded shelves of record stores and department outlets.
