Where it came from
Good Morning Story was released in 1999 on the Tone Casualties label, representing a later period in the prolific career of Holger Czukay, a founding member of the influential German krautrock band Can. The album showcases Czukay’s signature approach to sound collage and musique concrète, utilizing his characteristic method of manipulating tape loops, shortwave radio fragments, and multi-instrumental layering to create a surreal, atmospheric sonic landscape.
The album reflects Czukay’s transition into more experimental solo work following his departure from Can, building upon techniques he pioneered in the 1970s. Tone Casualties, a label known for championing avant-garde and experimental electronic artists, provided a fitting home for this release. It was received by critics and fans of the experimental scene as a testament to Czukay’s enduring ability to harmonize disparate musical textures into a coherent, if unconventional, narrative structure.
