Where it came from
Released in 1996 on the independent Freeze Records label, Hardcore Hip-Hop by Rawcotiks stands as a quintessential artifact of the mid-nineties East Coast underground rap scene. Produced during a period when the New York hip-hop landscape was defined by gritty, sample-heavy aesthetics and complex lyricism, this 12-inch single served as a vehicle to showcase the technical prowess of the duo, consisting of rappers Evidence and Desco.
The record was designed to capture the raw, unfiltered energy of Brooklyn’s hip-hop culture, reflecting the independent spirit of labels that sought to challenge the rising commercial dominance of major music conglomerates. While the track did not achieve mainstream chart success, it gained significant traction among DJs and crate-diggers who prized the group's aggressive flow and the label's dedication to authentic, street-level soundscapes.
