Ignacio

Ignacio is the original soundtrack for the 1978 French film L'Apocalypse des Animaux, directed by Frédéric Rossif. This ambient electronic score marked a pivotal moment in Vangelis's career, as it was his first collaboration with the director and helped establish the atmospheric, synthesizer-heavy sound that would later define his international success. The project was commissioned to accompany Rossif's meditative wildlife documentary series, requiring a score that balanced nature-inspired tranquility with expansive, progressive textures.

The album was produced and composed entirely by Vangelis at his Nemo Studios in London. Eschewing the conventional orchestral techniques of the time, he utilized a layering of synthesizers to create a lush, immersive landscape. Upon its initial release by the Italian label CAM, the album was received as an experimental departure from traditional soundtrack work, eventually gaining a cult following among fans of electronic music and avant-garde composition for its pioneering use of synthesizer soundscapes.
