Intégrale de l'oeuvre pour piano - Année de pèlerinage - Première année: "Suisse" - Deuxième année: "Italie"

This collection, released on the PG label, represents a significant interpretation of Franz Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage, covering the 'Suisse' and 'Italie' volumes. Liszt composed these works during his travels across Europe in the 1830s and 1840s, drawing deep inspiration from the landscapes and literature he encountered. They are considered quintessential examples of Romantic piano literature, designed to evoke specific emotional responses through complex technical passages and lyrical, programmatic melodies.

The performance is helmed by the acclaimed French pianist France Clidat, whose career was closely associated with the works of Liszt; she was famously dubbed 'Madame Liszt' by critics for her deep dedication to his piano repertoire. Her interpretation on this recording is noted for its clarity and technical precision, reflecting her rigorous training at the Paris Conservatoire. During the era of this release, Clidat was widely respected for her ability to navigate the daunting virtuosity of Liszt's scores while maintaining the subtle, poetic nuances required by the travelogues of his youth.
