Where it came from
Released in 1956 on the Tampa Records label, Jeebala Jabula Jingo represents a niche slice of the mid-century recording era. Tampa Records was an independent label primarily recognized for its contributions to the West Coast jazz scene, often providing a platform for experimental arrangements and smaller ensembles that fell outside the purview of the major record labels of the time.
The recording features the artistry of Joy Jordan accompanied by the Dick Taylor Orchestra. While little formal documentation remains regarding the specific creative intent behind this composition, it reflects the era's experimentation with exoticism and upbeat jazz-inflected pop. As a 45-RPM single, catalog number 45-TP 123, it serves as a historical artifact of a label that prioritized stylistic variety, though it remains a relatively obscure entry in the broader catalog of 1950s jazz and vocal pop.
