Where it came from
Released in 1970 on the Deram label, 'Jig-A-Jig' was the most successful commercial moment for the British progressive rock group East of Eden. The track is a driving, violin-led instrumental that leans heavily into folk-rock traditions, contrasting sharply with the more experimental, jazz-influenced compositions that defined the band's earlier studio albums.
The song's distinct sound was driven by Dave Arbus's prominent electric violin work, which gave the track a frenetic, danceable quality that helped it achieve significant chart success across Europe. While the band maintained a shifting lineup and a complex musical identity, this particular single remains a quintessential artifact of the late 1960s and early 1970s British underground scene's foray into mainstream pop-rock sensibilities.
