Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1981 on the independent Smoke Tree Records label, this record represents a niche curiosity of the era, produced as a self-styled project by Jim Johnson and his backing group. The ensemble, playfully billed as The Band-Aid of Jerry, Randy, and Kevin Johnson, reflects the home-grown spirit of independent American music production during the early 1980s, where regional artists often self-published records to establish a local footprint.

The album is a quintessential example of private-press output, characterized by its lo-fi aesthetic and experimental recording techniques. As a rare catalog entry from Smoke Tree Records, the release remains obscure in the broader music history of the period, reflecting the earnest but often ephemeral nature of independent grassroots recording projects before the digitalization of music distribution.
