Where it came from
Jokkmokks-Jokke, the stage name of Swedish musician Bengt Djupbäck, released this self-titled album on the Karusell label in 1966. As a prominent figure in the Swedish dansband and folk tradition, Djupbäck became a household name for his accessible, traditional accordion-led music that resonated with a wide audience in rural and industrial Sweden throughout the mid-20th century.
The album serves as a definitive showcase of his signature sound, which prioritized melodic simplicity and danceable rhythms. Karusell, a label known for fostering local talent in the Swedish music scene, provided the platform for this release to reach listeners who favored sentimental lyrics and classic schlager arrangements. The record is widely regarded by collectors as a quintessential artifact of the Swedish popular music landscape from the 1960s.
