Where it came from
Released in 1982 by Círculo de Lectores, this multi-volume anthology was curated to serve as a comprehensive sonic archive of Colombian musical heritage. The collection was designed for domestic listeners, aiming to consolidate diverse regional styles, including bambucos, cumbias, and pasillos, into a singular reference set that functioned as both entertainment and cultural documentation.
The production relied on the catalog of Sonolux, one of Colombia's most significant record labels, which held the rights to many of the country's mid-century musical icons. The design prioritized accessibility and breadth, featuring a rotating roster of performers that ranged from traditional folk duos to orchestral arrangements, ultimately serving as a preserved cultural snapshot for the home library market during the early 1980s.
