Music From Haiti

Released by Art Records during the mid-20th century, this EP serves as a vibrant document of Haitian musical traditions as interpreted by the Ernest Lamy Orchestra. The record emerged during a period of increasing international interest in Caribbean folk and ballroom music, functioning as a cultural bridge for listeners outside of the Caribbean who sought to experience the rhythms and melodies defining the Haitian soundscape of the era.

The recording is characteristic of the production style favored by Art Records, which focused on capturing authentic regional performances for domestic and international distribution. The design reflects the mid-century aesthetic of independent world music labels, prioritizing functional, descriptive cover art that framed these compositions as essential listening for those curious about global musical textures. It remains a notable, if niche, artifact of the mid-century global music movement.
