Néondian (Klausi Scheißt Auf Hollywood)

Released in 1985 under the Teldec label, Néondian represents a distinct chapter in the post-Neu! career of Klaus Dinger. Following his pioneering work in the Krautrock movement, Dinger moved toward a more idiosyncratic, punk-influenced sound with his project Rheinita Bella Düsseldorf. The record reflects Dinger’s ongoing experimentation with minimalist structures and motorik rhythms, albeit infused with the cynical, self-referential energy suggested by the EP’s German title, which translates roughly to Klaus craps on Hollywood.

The production process for this release saw Dinger exploring a more raw, home-studio aesthetic that contrasted with the polished synthesizer-heavy textures popular in the mid-1980s. Designed as both a musical statement and a critique of the commercial music industry, the EP is characterized by its repetitive, driving beat and Dinger’s distinctive, often deadpan vocal delivery.
