Perestrojka

The 1988 release of Perestrojka by the Holger Kopp Band arrived during a period of significant geopolitical tension and cultural transition in Europe. Produced independently by Holger Kopp, the record serves as a sonic artifact of the late 1980s, reflecting the atmospheric and experimental trends of the West German independent music scene. It was crafted during a time when artists were increasingly engaging with the shifting political landscape of the Soviet bloc, using the title as a direct reference to the reform policies then dominating international headlines.

Musically, the album occupies a niche space within the electronic and experimental rock spectrum, characterized by the idiosyncratic production choices typical of DIY self-releases from that era. As a private pressing or limited-distribution work, the record emphasizes the creative autonomy of the Holger Kopp Band, prioritizing artistic expression over mainstream commercial viability. While it did not receive widespread critical coverage in major music press, it remains a documented entry in the discography of independent European producers of the late Cold War period.
