This release was produced in 1987 as part of a curated classical music series distributed by DeAgostini. These subscription-based collections were designed to make standard repertoire accessible to a broader audience, often pairing foundational Mozart compositions with high-quality performances by established ensembles. The selections, ranging from the celebrated Eine kleine Nachtmusik to the more complex Adagio and Fugue, were chosen to highlight the versatility of the composer's string writing.

The performances featured on this disc were provided by I Musici, the renowned Italian chamber orchestra. Known for their refined, disciplined approach to baroque and classical music, the ensemble brought a level of technical precision and stylistic coherence that became a hallmark of their recordings during this era. Their interpretation of Mozart was widely regarded as a benchmark for clarity, emphasizing elegant phrasing and a balanced, transparent soundstage that appealed to both casual listeners and dedicated classical music enthusiasts.
