Where it came from
Radikal Roots Re-Edits Volume 7 is part of a series of unauthorized or grey-market dancehall-infused remixes that emerged in the mid-2000s. These pressings were designed to bridge the gap between traditional roots reggae archives and the contemporary sound system culture, utilizing acapellas from Bob Marley layered over heavy, re-engineered percussion tracks characteristic of the Roots Radics production style.
The release, cataloged as ROOTS7, reflects the persistent underground interest in dub-reconstruction during the mid-2000s. While the series lacks official affiliation with the Marley estate, it was received within sound system circles as a functional tool for DJs looking to modernize classic vocal tracks for club environments, prioritizing rhythmic weight and low-frequency impact over original production fidelity.
