Where it came from
Released in 1962, this single was part of the Nuova Enigmistica Tascabile (N.E.T.) series, a unique Italian publishing project that bundled flexi-discs with pocket-sized puzzle magazines. N.E.T. records provided an affordable way for listeners to access popular international hits and jazz standards, often featuring house musicians or local ensembles covering well-known tracks. The series is now highly regarded by collectors for its distinctive, ephemeral format and its snapshot of the intersection between Italian pop culture and the burgeoning international rock and roll scene.
This particular release features 'Red River Rock,' a rock instrumental originally popularized by Johnny and the Hurricanes, performed here by Complesso The Rangers. The B-side, 'Russo Cha Cha Cha,' reflects the era's fascination with Latin-inflected dance music. The design adheres to the standard N.E.T. aesthetic, which emphasized readability and utility within the context of the puzzle magazine, prioritizing the accessibility of the music over elaborate graphic branding.
