Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1956 on the small independent label Web Records, this 45-rpm single represents the niche landscape of mid-1950s regional rhythm and blues and rock and roll. The track Rock & Rockin' Roller Coaster Ride reflects the era's fascination with the burgeoning rock and roll movement, utilizing the imagery of roller coasters—a popular metaphor for the energy and thrill of the new musical style at the time.

The record was produced during a period when independent labels often served as test beds for artists blending jump blues with early rockabilly influences. George Bruce & The Manhattans were part of a vast ecosystem of performers striving to capture the attention of local audiences through regional distribution. The production design emphasizes the period's standard aesthetic for independent singles, prioritizing an upbeat, danceable sound intended for jukebox play and radio airplay in local markets.
