Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2017 on the Raisin Heads label, this 12-inch single represents a specific niche within the contemporary edit and remix culture that dominated underground dance scenes during the mid-2010s. The release serves as a tribute to classic soul and funk, recontextualizing vintage samples for modern dance floors through the lens of hip-hop influenced turntable manipulation and house production techniques.

The record features the work of DJ Dstrukt, a producer known for his technical prowess in the scratch community and his ability to blend archival vocal chops with driving electronic rhythms. By pairing a deep re-edit of a soul staple with a complementary remix, the release was designed to appeal to crate-digging DJs who favor functional, club-ready versions of established classics. It arrived during a period when limited-run vinyl edits were experiencing a surge in popularity, acting as a bridge between the tradition of the disco edit and modern sound design.
