Originally released digitally in 2017, The Electro Maloya Experiments serves as a modern reimagining of Maloya, the traditional folk music of Réunion Island. Jako Maron, an electronic musician and sound designer based in Saint-Denis, utilized his experience in sound engineering to bridge the gap between ancestral rhythmic traditions and experimental synthesized textures. By sampling, looping, and manipulating the complex polyrhythms typical of the genre, he sought to honor the spirit of Maloya while placing it within an unconventional, avant-garde electronic framework.

The 2023 expanded vinyl edition was issued by Nyege Nyege Tapes, an influential label based in Kampala, Uganda, known for documenting underground and experimental music from across Africa and its diaspora.
