Where it came from
Released in 2012 on the Brighton-based label Skint Records, The House of X-Press 2 serves as the third studio album by the electronic music trio comprising DJ Harvey, Rocky, and Diesel. The project arrived during a period when the group was refining their transition from the high-energy big beat and house sound of the early 2000s toward a more nuanced, eclectic, and atmospheric approach to electronic composition.
The album's design and production reflect the trio's deep roots in the UK club scene and their desire to experiment with textured soundscapes. While earlier work relied heavily on the peak-time club aesthetic that defined the Skint label, this collection sought to balance dancefloor sensibilities with broader stylistic influences, receiving a mixed but respectful reception from critics who noted the group's attempt to evolve their sonic identity beyond the commercial success of their prior hits.
