The record labeled EXP. 119, released under Express Songs, functions as a compilation EP capturing the diverse soul and funk soundscape of the mid-1970s. These tracks were originally issued by major labels like MCA and Motown, featuring prominent artists such as The Who, the Pointer Sisters, and The Spinners. Compilations of this nature were frequently produced during the era as budget-friendly samplers, often intended for jukebox operators or listeners who wanted a curated selection of radio hits on a single disc.

The aesthetic of this release reflects the standard functional design common to independent budget labels of the period, prioritizing song titles and artist names over elaborate cover art. Because these records were mass-produced as utility items rather than prestige collector editions, they often lacked the detailed liner notes of primary studio albums. Their historical value today lies in their function as artifacts of the distribution methods used to bring top-charting soul and rock hits to smaller markets.
