Where it came from
Released under the Jet Star label as catalog number SPK 015, This Is The Way by Prince Lamin emerged from the vibrant London reggae scene of the 1980s. Jet Star Records played a pivotal role in distributing Caribbean music within the United Kingdom, providing a platform for artists like Lamin to bridge traditional roots reggae with the evolving production sensibilities of the era.
The record reflects the rhythmic foundations and socio-political themes common to the label’s output during this period. Prince Lamin, known for his distinctive vocal delivery and conscious lyricism, crafted this release as part of a body of work aimed at both the local Jamaican diaspora and broader reggae audiences. The design and presentation reflect the standard industrial aesthetic of independent UK reggae labels, prioritizing the accessibility of the music and the artist's message over ornate packaging.
