Released in 2019 by Alda Music, Við Eigum Samleið serves as a definitive compilation of the most beloved hits by Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, a legendary figure in Icelandic popular music. Vilhjálmur, who passed away in 1978, was known for his velvety voice and emotive delivery, often referred to as the Icelandic equivalent of crooners like Frank Sinatra. This collection was curated to celebrate his enduring legacy and the profound impact he had on the nation's musical identity during the mid-20th century.
The album design reflects a classic, nostalgic aesthetic, utilizing archival photography that highlights Vilhjálmur’s charismatic presence. By gathering his most popular tracks, the record acts as both a historical preservation effort and a testament to the timeless quality of his arrangements. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans of Icelandic pop and jazz standards, serving as a high-quality contemporary pressing that introduced younger generations to the rich catalog of one of Iceland's most iconic vocalists.
