Released in 1983 by the Romanian state-owned label Electrecord, this recording captures the efforts of the early music ensemble Consort to preserve and interpret the historical compositions associated with the princely court of Alba Iulia during the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras. This project emerged within a broader cultural initiative in Romania during the 1970s and 80s to document and revive the local musical heritage of Transylvania, focusing on the sophisticated courtly traditions that flourished when Alba Iulia served as the capital of the Principality of Transylvania.
